\"Bölgeblick\" won second place in the pressed glass division of the Karhula–Iittala glass design competition held in 1932.
It was introduced internationally early on, being exhibited in London the following year in 1933, and manufacturing began at Karhula in 1934.
At the Milan Triennale in 1936, it won the Grand Prix for exhibition design, and simultaneously, the \"Bölgeblick\" series was awarded a gold medal.
From around 1937, it began to be sold as the \"Aalto\" series, named after the designer.
The name \"Bölgeblick\" is said to be related to \"Café Böljeblick,\" a functionalist building that appeared at the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, which is considered the starting point of Nordic modern design. It is considered a design born within the growing trend of Nordic modern design at the time.
In Finnish, \"Aalto\" means \"wave,\" and the concentric circular form, spreading like ripples, has a double meaning, coinciding with the designer\'s name.
The distinctive stepped rings not only beautifully reflect light but also offer the practical advantage of allowing the vessels to be stacked for storage.
They also serve as a way to make air bubbles and wrinkles, commonly seen in mass-produced glass at the time, less noticeable.
It is one of the representative products of Nordic modern design, with the \"Aino Aalto\" series still being manufactured by Iittala today.
This is a tumbler with product number 4056 and a capacity of 40ml, manufactured at Karhula from 1936 to 1938.
It is part of the series exhibited at the 1936 Milan Triennale, where it won a gold medal.
*In good condition with no noticeable damage.
As is characteristic of glass products from the time of manufacture, there may be air bubbles, wrinkles, and distortions, and individual differences in size and shape.
While noticeable damage has been described, please understand that other minor scratches and scuffs are to be expected as the item is approximately 90 years old.
As this is a rare item, it has been purchased using different criteria than our regular inventory.
Please be aware of this point.
