Name: Antique 1910 Kazak with Brick-Red Lattice Field & Bold Tribal Diamond Medallions
Size: 3.2 x 5.3Age: Circa 1910Origin: Caucasus Region (Kazak Tradition)Pile: Hand-knotted wool
This early 20th century Kazak is a fantastic example of the bold geometry and powerful color palettes that make Caucasian tribal rugs so sought after.
The rug opens with a warm brick-red field, glowing with subtle variations in tone that come from hand-dyed wool. Across the surface runs a rhythmic lattice of diamond medallions, creating a dynamic all-over pattern that feels both structured and full of movement.
Each diamond contains hooked tribal motifs, stylized floral elements, and angular “ram’s horn” shapes, symbols often associated with strength and protection in traditional weaving. The repeating design gives the rug a beautiful sense of balance—your eye travels naturally across the pattern, discovering new details with every glance.
Surrounding the field is a bold, dark border in deep brown-black, filled with stepped diamonds, zigzags, and small rosette motifs woven in ivory, soft blues, and muted reds. The contrast between the vibrant red field and the darker framing border gives the rug a strong architectural presence.
Multiple narrow guard borders sit inside and outside the main border, filled with tiny hooks, dots, and geometric flowers that add depth and visual rhythm.
The overall palette is classic Caucasian tribal: brick red, ivory, soft blues, earthy browns, and subtle pinkish tones—a combination that feels both grounded and lively.
Kazak rugs originate from the Caucasus region, where village and tribal weavers became famous for producing carpets with bold geometric patterns, strong borders, and saturated natural dyes.
Unlike city workshop rugs, these pieces were woven in homes and small village settings, which gives them their unmistakable character. Slight variations in pattern, color shifts known as abrash, and small irregularities are all part of what make tribal rugs so special.
This piece dates to around 1910, placing it firmly in the antique category, with more than a century of history woven into its wool.
At 3.2 x 5.3, this rug is an incredibly versatile size—large enough to anchor a small seating area but compact enough to use almost anywhere.
Perfect for:
• Entryways• Beside a bed• Small living areas• Offices• Layering in larger rooms
Its bold geometry also makes it a fantastic statement accent rug.
Beautiful antique condition with the natural character expected from a handmade rug over 100 years old. The wool shows gentle wear and lovely tonal variation from natural dyes.
Professionally cleaned and ready for its next home.
