HOT ! Afghan Super Kazakh Runner

The Kazakh weaving tradition has its roots in the Caucasus mountains, carried across borders and centuries by weavers who settled in Afghanistan and never put the craft down. This rug is hand-knotted in northern Afghanistan by artisans working within that lineage, using techniques passed down through generations.

The Super Kazakh is a step above the standard Kazakh in knot density. More knots per square inch means the bold geometric designs, the large medallions, hooked polygons, stylised animals and tribal symbols, resolve with greater precision and sharpness. The patterns are unmistakably Kazakh, framed by distinctive borders of repeating geometric motifs, each one working with the field rather than against it.

The wool is hand-spun, which creates natural variations in the yarn that give the pile its depth and the almost silky sheen that catches light across the surface. Those same irregularities make the wool harder wearing than machine-spun alternatives. This is a rug built for daily use and designed to improve with it.
